WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — Police are now saying someone killed the Walker mother who had been missing for several weeks.
Walker police believe the body found this morning on Bristol Ridge Drive between 3 Mile Road and I-96 is Berta Yolanda Reyes. They have called the cause of death as ‘Death by homicidal means’.
No one is being called a suspect at this time, but police and family confirm that Reyes’s husband was brought to talk to the Walker Police Department Friday. He’s since been released.
When 24 Hour News 8 spoke to Reyes’ family, they were shocked to learn it was a homicide. “My nephew he don’t know, he want to know why, he wants to know what happen,” Mageda Rodes said.
Reyes’ husband was the last person to see her on April 24. He told police he dropped her off at work, but she never clocked in and no one at work saw her.
A crew was excavating a neighborhood lot on when they found a body under the dirt, only a half mile north from where Berta Yolanda Reyes was last seen. Police say the body matches her physical description, but they are waiting for dental records to confirm.
Authorities haven’t released any more information at this time, other than the investigation will continue as a homicide investigation.
