Meth lab found on Kal-Haven Trail

PINE GROVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A person hunting for mushrooms along the Kal-Haven Trail stumbled upon an active meth lab inside a backpack Friday.

The backpack was found on the Kal-Haven Trail near 27th Street, east of Gobles. It contained an active meth lab and other items commonly used in manufacturing methamphetamine, according to a release.

When the South West Enforcement Team was cleaning up the hazardous items, deputies noticed a suspicious man walking around the area carrying a bag. Authorities approached the 23-year-old male and discovered the bag also had items used to make meth, the release said.

The suspect allegedly confessed to manufacturing meth in Van Buren and Kalamazoo Counties. He was taken to Van Buren County Jail where he is booked for Operating/Maintaining a Methamphetamine Lab, according to police.

The name of the suspect hasn’t yet been released.
