Police found driver who hit school bus

SALEM TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The driver who hit a Hopkins Public School bus Friday is now in custody.

The school bus was stopped at a stop sign at 138th Avenue and 30th Street around 4 p.m. in Salem Township, west of Wayland, when a vehicle hit the rear of the bus, then drove away.

There were eight elementary children on the bus at the time, but no injuries were reported, according to a release.

Due to citizen tips, police were able to locate the car at a residence in Salem Township. The driver was taken into custody for failing to stop and identify at a property damage crash, police said.
