GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD/AP) — A tiger that’s called Lansing’s Potter Park Zoo home since 2009 has made the move to the John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids.
The Potter Park Zoo says Nika was moved this week to her new home. The Amur tiger will be on exhibit this summer with two other tigers.
John Ball Zoo will open an all-new tiger exhibit on June 14, called Tigers of the Realm, which will be located on top of the Idema Forest Realm.
While in Lansing, Nika gave birth to three female cubs named Kira, Savelii and Ameliya. Kira and Savelii were transferred earlier this year to a zoo out of state.
Ameliya and father Sivaki remain in Lansing.
The Amur Tiger Species Survival Plan of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums makes annual breeding and transfer plans.
Potter Park Zoo says Nika was moved following a suggestion that Nika be transferred.
