GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD)– A man is behind bars after he slammed his pickup truck into a church while intoxicated Saturday morning.
The crash happened at Brookside Christian Reformed Church on Kalamazoo Avenue Southeast in Grand Rapids at around 2:30 a.m.
According to officials, a man in his 20’s drove through a flashing red light at the intersection, struck a boulder and a tree and then slammed into the front office window of the church.
Police said the man was two times over the legal limit. He was not hurt, but his truck sustained significant damage.
Pastor Paul DeVries spoke to 24 Hour News 8 and said this was not the first time the building was crashed into. A similar situation happened a few years ago, and DeVries said the damage was even worse.
The crash remains under investigation.
