KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a 70-year-old Kalamazoo woman with Alzheimer’s was had been missing for nearly a week was located Sunday in Battle Creek.

Diane Young’s family contacted the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Saturday, telling authorities no one had heard from her since Monday, May 12. Family said Young, who doesn’t own a car or cellphone, may have purchased a bus ticket, but weren’t sure where she may have gone, police said.

Around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, officers with the Battle Creek Police Department told KDPS they had found Young.

BCPD said a citizen had flagged down some officers and told them Young was at a Battle Creek motel. When officers went to check it out, they found Young.

Young was brought back to Kalamazoo and released in to the custody of a family member.

“Kalamazoo Public Safety wishes to thank the public and Battle Creek Police Department for their role in insuring the safe return of Young to her family,” a Sunday release from KDPS said.
