MDCH investigating K’zoo Psychiatric Hospital

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Two directors and a nurse have been suspended at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital as state officials investigate allegations of neglect.

A spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Community Health tells 24 Hour News 8 the hospital’s director, James Coleman, and the director of nurses were suspended in mid-May. A nurse at the hospital was also suspended a few days before the directors were suspended.

The state is investigating three allegations of neglect with three separate patients.

Spokesperson Angela Minicuci says the suspensions are indefinite as long as the investigations are going on and the return of those suspended to the hospital will hinge on what the investigations uncover.

An acting director from the state offices was assigned to the hospital to help oversee the day-to-day operations.
