West Michigan TV Pioneer dies

Chuck Furman

ALLENDALE, Mich. (WOOD)–  A man, who dedicated his life to Public Television and WGVU has died.

According to officials at Grand Valley State University, Chuck Furman, died yesterday. Furman started his career in broadcasting back in 1966 while at Bowling Green State University. In 1972, he moved to Grand Rapids to help start the PBS station.

Furman was eventually named Assistant General Manager in charge of community relations. He held that a position until his retirement in 2005. He was 73 years old.
