SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WOOD) With the popularity of Pinterest, more people are willing to try something new and creative. A unique and interesting art medium on display right now at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts is fiber.
“Material Girls: Quilts by Judith Jarzembowski + Rugs by Judy Bowman Anthrop” is on display through June 8. It showcases more than 30 pieces from the regional artists. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
If you want to try working with fiber yourself, there is a Fiber Workshop on Saturday, May 31. Spend the day with acclaimed fiber artist Jennifer Gould, learning to create patterns and designs on natural fabrics. This hands-on workshop is designed for fabric lovers, quilters, clothing designers, painters or even beginners interested in diving into fiber art. The workshop is from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to anyone age 16 or older. The cost is $70, which includes materials and informational handouts. Students provide their own washed cotton or Kona fabrics.
