Another evacuation linked to Dorr school incident

DORR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – The Dorr Township Hall was evacuated for about 40 minutes Tuesday in connection to an incident involving a suspicious package at Dorr Elementary School on Monday.

MSP did not release additional details what led to the evacuation at the hall, which is located at 4196 18th Street.

“We were just asked to evacuate. We were doing a presentation, and they just came in an asked us to move over here,” Jim Paschal said.

He was at the hall with the Plumbing Inspectors Association of Michigan when members were told their monthly meeting would be interrupted. They were not told why.

On Monday, Dorr Elementary was evacuated after a suspicious package and person were spotted near the school building, according to police. Students and staff were moved to the township firehouse, located near the school, as a precaution. No explosives were found and no one was hurt.

The town library was also searched Monday, as was a white car outside. Police would not say whether they found anything suspicious.

Tuesday, town residents mentioned a mysterious stranger who had been at the library Monday.

“I just kind of knew he was a creep,” library clerk Nicole Evans said.

Residents said he also went to the local diner, where he bothered customers, before 10:30 a.m. Monday

“He was walking around telling people they weren’t going to like what was going to happen later and to take care of your children,” waitress Kathy Knight said.

Police said Monday they were questioning a person of interest in the case. Further details on that person were not released.
