WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities have confirmed the body found at a Walker construction site is that of Berta Yolanda Reyes.
A dental record match confirmed Reyes was the victim, according to a Tuesday release from the Walker Police Department.
The body was found Friday at the site of what will be a subdivision off Bristol Avenue between 3 Mile and I-96. Even before official confirmation, Walker police said they were proceeding as though the body was that of Reyes and as though she had been murdered.
As of Tuesday, the death was still considered “by homicidal means,” Walker police said. They said the Kent County Medical Examiner has not yet provided additional details about how Reyes may have died.
Reyes, a mother of three, was last seen alive on April 24 at her job at Neal Mast & Son Greenhouse near the corner of Bristol Avenue and 4 Mile Road. She was considered missing until her body was found last week.
Police have not named a suspect in Reyes’ death.
Family told 24 Hour News 8 Monday they do not know why someone would want to kill Reyes.
“We just want to know what happened. That is all that we want,” a family member of Reyes’ husband said in Spanish. “We want justice for who did this to her.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Walker Police Department at 616.453.5441 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
Reyes’ funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary’s Church, which is located at 423 First St. NW in Grand Rapids, according to a family spokesperson.
