MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people now face charges for the 2012 murder of a Chicago man in Muskegon.

Demario Marcellis Buchanan, 30, and 24-year-old Quazala Dwayne Porchia are both being charged with open murder in the death of Deonte Billups, according to the Muskegon Police Department.

Billups was killed on Nov . 4, 2012 in the 1200 block of Allen Avenue.

Muskegon police say Chicago detectives were instrumental in finding a key witness in the windy city. They said the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Michigan State Police Crime Lab aided in making charges possible.

Buchanan and Porchia also face a charge each of felony firearm and lying to police in a violent crime investigation. Buchanan has also been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Porchia was previously charged with being an accessory after the fact in the murder.
