KENT COUNTY, Mich. (WOOD) – One man is behind bars and police are searching for three others after busting a multi-county burglary ring, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.
Kent County sheriff’s detectives recovered thousands of dollars in stolen property after identifying the suspects and serving warrants at a Grand Rapids business and homes in Grand Rapids Township, Wyoming, Hastings and Cadillac, the sheriff’s department said.
Stolen property was recovered from nearly twenty complaints that came in from Kent, Newaygo and Montcalm counties during six searches.
At least 18 cases in connection to the ring have been solved, the department said. Most of the break-ins happened during the week of May 5, where the suspects hit garages, barns, houses and cars.
“Their pattern was fast and furious, said Kent County Undersheriff Jon Hess. “It looked like they were stealing a lot of things related to cars.”
One of the suspects, 22-year-old Michael Parris, is in jail, and is facing charges in two burglaries.
The sheriff’s department said deputies are still searching for a 21-year-old man, a 17-year-old and a juvenile in connection to the case.
“We were tipped off to this and as people began to tell us what happened in some of the areas that had been burglarized, we would go to those places and use search warrants to go where some of the property that was stolen was located,” Hess said.
Hess said there was good cooperation between police investigators across the counties, which helped to return stolen items to their rightful owners – including stolen property already sold to people as far away as Cadillac.
“I know the people that had the things stolen are very happy to have their things back and have the case solved,” Hess said.
The sheriff’s department said some of the recovered items include:
- A rare Borg Warner T10 four-speed transmission
- Triumph motorcycle
- Chevrolet Impala
- Yamaha golf cart
- Miller 212 mig welder
- GM engine
- Compound bows
- John Deere toolbox, tools
- Top Flight golf bag, golf clubs
- Coleman generator
- Antique military paraphernalia
- 20-gauge shotgun
