SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person died after being electrocuted near Dowagiac Thursday.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 30000 block of Middle Crossing Road in Silver Creek Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.

Three people — Timothy Curtis, his son Jonathon and a juvenile — were putting up a TV tower when the metal structure touched an overhead power line.

Timothy and Jonathon Curtis were shocked and lost consciousness. The juvenile, who was not hurt, called 911.

When Jonathon Curtis regained consciousness, he began CPR on his father at the instruction of dispatchers.

Fire department personnel took over when they arrived, but resuscitation attempts were not successful. Timothy Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jonathon Curtis was taken to Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac and then transferred to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, where he was listed in stable condition.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Pride Care Ambulance, Indian Lake Fire Department, the Dowagiac Police Department and the Pokagon Tribal Police responded to the scene.
