GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Local efforts are underway to send relief to people who have been affected by the recent floods in Bosnia.

The flooding has affected around a million people in Bosnia. After the heaviest rainfall in 120 years, many of these people are now homeless.

The Bosnian Culture Center in the 2800 block of Eastern SE in Grand Rapids has been collecting donations to send to Bosnians affected by the floods.

“Yesterday we had a trailer, a fifty foot trailer taken by one of the local companies, speed express, to deliver the freight over to Detroit where it’s going to be flown over via cargo airplane,” Melvin Bektas, a worker at the center said.

The center is still taking donations and will be collecting until 3 p.m. Saturday.
