GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Obesity is on the rise in the United States, but you might not realize how closely some cancers are linked to it. Obesity can put you at a higher risk of cancers that are unique to women, like uterine cancer.
Dr. Paul Kemmeter, Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery, and Dr. Kevin Brader, Medical Director of Gynecologic Oncology, work together at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s to provide options to patients regarding their treatment.
Obesity accounts for about 50,000 cancers a year, and is the single most modifiable risk factor. It is directly linked to uterine cancer, endometrial cancer, and can cause infertility. Obesity can also lead to other conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes.
