Police shoot, kill dog that mauled infant

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD)– A five month old infant is recovering after being attacked by a dog.

It happened on Diamond Avenue Southeast in Grand Rapids around 10 p.m. Friday.

Police say they got a report that the dog was attacking a baby. When police arrived, they tried to catch the dog, but it started attacking officers.

Police on scene shot and killed the dog.

Officials told 24 Hour News 8 that the dog was a family pet.

Police did not know the infant’s current condition, but it is believed the infant had non-life threatening injuries.
