GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Three people have been arrested after a man was severely beaten at an elementary school playground Friday evening, Grand Rapids police said.

The assault happened around 8:30 p.m. Friday outside Sibley Elementary School on Sibley Street NW. When police arrived on the scene, they found a man in his 20s with life-threatening injuries, including possible bleeding on the brain.

Grand Rapids Police Department Lt. Pat Merrill said Sunday the victim remained hospitalized and that his condition had not improved.

Three teen suspects were in custody Sunday, Merrill said. At least one more suspect was still being sought.

Neighbors said the victim was playing basketball with a group when he was jumped by some younger people. Merrill said the victim was stomped in the head and chest.
