CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was shot outside of a banquet center Sunday morning.
The shooting happened around 2 a.m. outside the Cascade Meeting and Wedding Reception Center, located in the 6000 block of 28th Street SE.
Officers said there was a “hip-hop party” for Memorial Day going on at the center when a fight started. The fight then ended up outside of the center and a man was shot in the back.
The victim, identified Tuesday as 21-year-old Tayvon Michael Gates of Grand Rapids, was treated for a single gunshot wound and released from the hospital.
Numerous shell casings from three different caliber handguns were located in the parking lot, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, and several vehicles were hit by bullets.
All of the entrances to the plaza were taped off as police collected evidence.
“We currently have some evidence that was left in the parking lot, some shell casings from rounds so we are processing that right now. We are also processing a couple of cars that were struck by bullets,” Lt. Troy Woodwyk said Sunday.
Police do not have any suspects at this time.The shooting remains under investigation.
