1 ejected, 1 trapped in Calhoun Co. rollover

BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – Three women were taken to the hospital after the car in which they were riding rolled over, ejecting one and trapping another early Monday morning in Calhoun County.

It happened around 3:20 a.m. on 8 Mile Road near T Drive South in Burlington Township, southeast of Battle Creek, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found two of the women, both 19, outside the car and were told that another woman, also 19, was trapped inside, the sheriff’s office said.

The deputies were able to get the third woman out of the car — which was crushed and lying on its side — by taking off the sunroof, a release said.

The deputies learned that the women were headed north on 8 Mile Road when the driver lost control, and the car rolled over several times, according to the sheriff’s office. The woman who was ejected wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck.

The women, who are all from Battle Creek, were taken to a local hospital and then transferred to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo where they are in stable condition, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies said alcohol could have been a factor in the wreck, which is still being investigated.
