GARFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Officials found the body of a Grand Rapids woman who was missing and presumed to have drowned in a Newaygo County lake.
Muskegon and Ottawa County dive teams joined in the search Tuesday morning for 35-year-old Brandi Humphrey in Kimball Lake.
A sonar device located the body about 120 yards outside the original search grid. An underwater robot was used to confirm the find, and the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Department divers recovered the body, which was found in about 28 feet of water.
Loved ones tell 24 Hour News 8 that Humphrey’s fiance’s brother jumped in to help her with a life jacket when she began to struggle. He thought she grabbed the jacket, but the fiance’s brother struggled as well and headed back to the boat. When he turned around, the life jacket was floating and Humphrey was missing.
Humphrey had two young sons and was engaged for about a year.
