GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Twin brothers are being charged with what police say was an especially brutal attack on a Grand Rapids prostitute.
Michael and Peter Versluys were charged Tuesday morning with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, armed robbery and assault with intent to murder.
Grand Rapids Police Department Lt. Pat Merrill said one of the brothers picked up the prostitute around 1 a.m. Sunday and allegedly engaged in sex acts with her. But then, Merrill said, the brother didn’t want to pay her.
That’s allegedly when both brothers began the vicious beating, using a baton to hit the woman in the face and head repeatedly. They allegedly ripped off the victim’s pants, trying to rob her. Then they took off.
The woman was able to make it outside and get help. She was severely injured and will need “significant” facial reconstruction, Merrill said, but will survive.
The victim knew her attackers, having had previous transactions with them, and identified them to GRPD, according to Merrill.
Detectives worked 18 hours straight to find the twins, Merrill said. Both remained jailed Tuesday.
