GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — More than half of the people who signed up to get on a Section 8 housing voucher waiting list in Grand Rapids are out of luck.

The Grand Rapids Housing Commission said in a release that between May 12 and May 16, it received 9,202 applications to get on the waiting list. But there are only 4,000 spots on available.

Preference was given to Kent County residents, which eliminated nearly 4,000 applicants.

A computerized lottery will determine which of the remaining 5,500 applicants will make the waiting list.

All applicants will get a note in the mail in early July informing them whether they are on the list.
