Excavator slids down hill onto man

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A Consumers Energy employee who was working at a construction site Thursday morning in Ottawa County was hospitalized after he was pinned under a piece of construction equipment.

It happened at a home under construction in the 3300 block of Harrison Avenue east of 34th Avenue in Georgetown Township, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Central Dispatch.

The worker, 50-year-old James Babinec of Zeeland, had to be rescued after his leg was pinned under an excavator when it started sliding down a hill. Other workers at the site were able to free Babinec before police arrived at the scene, dispatch told 24 Hour News 8.

Babinec injuries were not life-threatening. He was last known to be in good condition.

A Consumers Energy spokesman said that the company had crews at the site of the incident working to determine what happened.
