MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — The Muskegon Area Intermediate School District has selected a new superintendent.

The Board of Education said in a release that it voted Thursday to offer the job to Dr. John Severson, the current superintendent of Harper Creek Community Schools.

“I was treated very well by members of the staff and community during my visits, and I look forward to getting to know everyone better. I am humbled to have been selected to serve the MAISD in this way,” Severson said in a statement, according to the release.

Severson beat out Mecosta-Osceola ISD Superintendent Dr. Curtis Finch.

Details of Severson’s employment with MAISD — like when he will start and what type of contract he will have — have not yet been released.

Current MAISD Superintendent David Sipka announced in January he will retire effective June 30. He has done the job since July 2011.
