Woman thrown from car dies

GREEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Police are investigating following a deadly car crash in Mecosta County.

The crash happened around 8:30 Wednesday night on Newcosta Avenue north of 20 Mile Road in Green Township.

According to police, 53-year-old Norma Welling was driving northbound when she lost control on the gravel road, hit a mailbox and a tree before being thrown from her car.

Officials said Welling was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and died on scene.

The passenger, who was wearing his seatbelt, suffered minor injuries.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor.
