Club Tequila closer to re-opening

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A shuttered Grand Rapids nightclub has cleared a major hurdle towards re-opening.

Club Tequila’s owner Roosevelt Tillman has won approval of the Grand Rapids Zoning Board of Appeals to move locations.

The current location at 725 Division has been closed, while Tillman placed the liquor license in escrow because he wants to move back to the original location at 932 S. Division.

The Planning Commission had opposed the move, citing numerous calls to police and a potential negative impact on the neighborhood, but the zoning board of appeals has voted 5-2 to allow the move.

Tillman’s plan focuses on attracting what he believes is a growing Hispanic population that isn’t being served by other clubs.

The board will meet June 19th to decide what conditions it may place on the Club Tequila’s operation.
