GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Many people dream of running a race or completing a triathlon, but for a person with a disability, the barriers they face might seem like that dream is impossible. My Team Triumph allows athletes with a variety of disabilities to partner with a team of competitors to help them cross the finish line.

The idea of My Team Triumph is to create an opportunity for someone with a disability to take part in activities that other athletes might take for granted. The organization acts as the coordinator of the event. They recruit the captains, the people with disabilities, and the athletes they call “angels” to participate in the events.

My Team Triumph is hosting its first ever gala, the “Captains’ Ball” on Saturday, May 31. The event is 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Mini of Grand Rapids at 1010 28th Street. It’s a different type of gala, with a party atmosphere. You can walk the red carpet and have your picture taken at a photo wall. There will be a strolling dinner and a DJ. Tickets are $75 per person. You can buy tickets by clicking here.
