WOOD TV8 awarded AP General Excellence

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — WOOD TV8 has been awarded the honor of General Excellence from the Michigan Associated Press.

The recognition for WOOD TV8′s work in 2013 was announced Sunday afternoon at a luncheon in Lansing.

Also at the event, WOOD TV8 received the first-place award in the following categories:

  • Best Enterprise/Investigative Reporting: Target 8 investigator Ken Kolker and photojournalist Bilal Kurdi for their investigation on the state oversight board director who helped a troubled abortion doctor regain his license.
  • Best Continuing Coverage: Our 24 Hour News 8 team for coverage of the death of Trooper Paul Butterfield.
  • Best Spot News: Reporters Ken Kolker and Joe LaFurgey for coverage of a bus crash on I-94.
  • Best Individual Reporting: Reporter, anchor and Target 8 investigator Marlee Ginter.

WOOD TV8 swept the Sports category, taking both first and second place for All Access 8 and Football Frenzy coverage, respectively. Sports reporters Larry Figurski and Casey Jones and Sports Director Jack Doles were named in those awards.
