GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) Diabetes is a condition that affects 25.8 million people in the United States. That’s 8.3% of the population! The Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology at Spectrum Health Medical Group uses a team approach to manage diabetes. Because diabetes is often coupled with other conditions such as obesity, high blood press, and high cholesterol, it often takes a team of doctors, specialists, and educators to help a person with diabetes live life to the fullest.

There are ways to manage diabetes. First, talk to your doctor. Make sure you get yearly physicals and don’t be afraid to ask questions. You may need to make some lifestyle modifications in diet and exercise and lose weight. It’s also a good idea to seek support from family or others who live with diabetes.
