GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The much-anticipated ‘Movies in the Park’ begins Friday night in downtown Grand Rapids.

The first movie that will be shown at Ah-Nab-Awen Park is “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” It will be the first of a six-night summer film series. While supplies last, Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. will be giving away free, commemorative posters of the lineup to attendees.

Pre-movie activities begin at 7 p.m. Friday and the film will start at dusk.

Harp Up Horns Big Band will be playing music from the 1930s and 1940s along with classic movie theme songs.

The night will also feature a special moment to honor World War II heroes with the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment.

The winner of a home projector system will also be announced Friday night. More than 60 people guessed all six films from the teaser video released in April promoting ‘Movies in the Park’.

“As we approach the start of the Movies in the Park season, we’re excited to see people sharing the message with their friends and family to come down, bring food and drinks and enjoy the experience,” said Kristopher Larson, President and CEO of Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. “This is truly an event that brings friends and family together for a fun evening in an unparalleled setting.”

Attendees are welcome to bring chairs or blankets, along with food, wine and beer. A variety of local vendors will also have additional food available for purchase.
