OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person is dead after a water rescue at the Chain Lakes Saturday.

Around 11 a.m., rescue crews were called out to the 10000 block of Perch Lane NE in Oakfield Township; 5 miles southwest of Greenville.

Authorities say Charles Cooley, 53, and his wife were fishing on a small aluminum row when Cooley shifted positions in the boat and it capsized.

Both Cooley and his wife fell in to Chains Lake. The wife resurfaced, but Cooley did not.

The wife grabbed a floatation device, swam to shore and found a neighbor to call for help.

When rescue crews arrived, they were able to find the husband and pull him out of the water.

Rescue crews started performing CPR on Cooley for a while, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
