Construction causes I-96 traffic backup

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Construction caused a traffic backup on I-96 southeast of Grand Rapids.

Traffic was down to one lane on eastbound I-96, causing a backup between 28th Street and M-6, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Additionally, the ramp from eastbound M-6 to westbound I-96 was closed for construction, MDOT said. That was diverting traffic to eastbound I-96 and may have been making the traffic problem there worse.
