Good Samaritan helps man who fell from boat

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — A windsurfer helped a man who fell from his boat into Lake Michigan Sunday evening.

It happened around 6:15 p.m. at Pere Marquette Park Beach, not far from the Muskegon City Water Filtration plant, according to the U.S. Coast Guard Muskegon station.

A man fell out of his boat, the Coast Guard said. People on the beach saw the empty boat and called 911.

Meanwhile, a windsurfer helped the man who fell into the water. A Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department boat soon got both people out of the water, the Coast Guard said.

The boater may have suffered hypothermia and was taken to the hospital to be checked out, but was able to walk to the ambulance at the scene, the Coast Guard said.

The windsurfer was not hurt.
