GREENWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman drowned in the White River in Oceana County’s Greenwood Township over the weekend.

Deputies with the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office responded to the bank of the White River Saturday morning where they found a woman’s shoes and personal items.

A short time later, a canoeist reported seeing a woman in the water, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies went to that location and found that a woman, 51-year-old Shelly Dyer, had drowned.

The sheriff’s department said alcohol is believed to be a factor in her drowning.
