GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A 25-year-old Kentwood man has been charged after allegedly robbing a man after agreeing to a Craigslist purchase.

Leroy Montrell Simpson, 25, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon on charges of armed robbery and being a habitual offender.

Grand Rapids police told 24 Hour News 8 they tracked down Simpson through phone records.

The victim, Peter Hendrix, was able to identify the suspect as the man who robbed him at gunpoint during a Craigslist exchange, according to police.

Hendrix told 24 Hour News 8 last week that he was trying to sell an Xbox One when he met the potential buyer outside of an elementary school on the city’s southeast side. That’s when the other man held Hendrix at gunpoint and stole the gaming system, Hendrix said.

Tuesday, Simpson’s bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety. He is due back in court on June 20 for a preliminary hearing.
