ArtPrize Artist Gives Back to Boys and Girls Club

For one of the artists who participated last year in ArtPrize, Grand Rapids left a profound impression on him and his wife.

Alberto and Luz Stella Gomez from Deltona, Florida wanted to give back. Their desire to influence and help young kids, inspired their wish to create a mural at the Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth.

This is the 31st mural for Alberto. The theme for the mural was “My Great Future Is..” To encourage involvement from the kids attending the Boys and Girls Club they created a art competition. Kids submitted their own art centered on the “My Great Future Is…” theme and 15 students were selected.

The winners were able to assist on the painting process that took 12 days to complete the 30 feet by 8 feet painting.

The painting is Alberto and Luz’s way of saying thank you to Grand Rapids.

The Boys and Girls Club began their summer programs this Monday serving more than 400 kids between their three locations and more than 600 kids at Camp O’Malley.
