Find your flavor in Ludington

LUDINGTON, Mich. (WOOD) Families love to get away during the summer, and there’s a lakeshore community that’s perfect for family fun.

Ludington is just a couple of hours from downtown Grand Rapids. Visitors and locals alike love to stop by Waterfront Sculpture Park for some gorgeous lakeside views. It’s not far from House of Flavors, a must-stop destination.

House of Flavors has been in business in Ludington for 66 years. They make their own ice cream for their shop and for other companies across the United States. You can get a scoop of ice cream, or if you’re really hungry, try their Super Pig’s Dinner or gourmet Rice Krispie treat ice cream sandwich.

After your ice cream treat, let the kids burn off the sugar at Sandcastles Children’s Museum. They have more than 30 interactive exhibits including a real Cessna airplane, control tower, and S.S. Badger playship. Kids can also stay busy at Sandcastles’ own town, complete with post office, bank, grocery store, pizza shop, and ice cream store. Sandcastles also has events and programs. You can find a list on their website.

There are so many fun events coming up in Ludington like Harbor Festival, which is June 27 through July 6. There’s also the First Friday Art Walk in the downtown area, which is always the first Friday of the month during summer. You can also check out Ludington’s Friday Night Live events in July and August. Music lovers gather around a large outdoor stage featuring live music every Friday night, along with a big street fair.

You can start planning your getaway by going to the Pure Ludington website. There’s everything from accommodations to dining options, information about beaches and recreational activities, and shopping.
