2-year-old pulled from pool; breathing after CPR

BOSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A 2-year-old boy who nearly drowned in a swimming pool in Ionia County Thursday afternoon is expected to be OK.

It happened around 1 p.m. in the backyard of a home in the 7700 block of Nash Highway, just south of I-96 and north of Clarksville, according to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.

The toddler wandered into the small, above-ground pool and was underwater for several minutes before he was pulled out by family members, sheriff’s officials said.

The boy wasn’t breathing, and a family member performed CPR before an Ionia County sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene. By the time the deputy arrived, the boy was alert and breathing again on his own, according to the sheriff’s office.

The boy was taken to a hospital in Grand Rapids to be checked out. Dispatchers said he was sitting up and playing with toys.
