GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Local celebrities will duke it out Friday in the annual Put Cancer on the Ropes boxing fundraiser — and 24 Hour News 8’s Casey Jones will among them.

Participants will go three one-minute rounds against one another. Proceeds will benefit the pediatric cancer and blood disorder program at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

Shimmell will be headlining the charity event, though he won’t be fighting. Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell and Detroit Red Wing Luke Glendening, from East Grand Rapids, will be the celebrity judges, as will Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital hematology and oncology division chief Dr. James Fahner.

The event is scheduled for Friday evening at the DeltaPlex.
