PD: Newaygo man tried to hit Chicago officers

CHICAGO (WOOD) — A Newaygo County man is facing charges in Chicago after police say he tried to run over some officers with his car in Wicker Park.

Michael Cote, 39, of Newaygo is charged with five felonies, including aggravated assault, and several other misdemeanors in connection to the incident which occurred Tuesday night.

Police said Cote crashed into several vehicles, and when officers began to walk up to his car, Cote backed up towards them at a high rate of speed, NBC affiliate WMAQ reported.

An officer at the scene fired a weapon at Cote, hitting him in the leg. The severity of his injuries is unknown.

WMAQ said Cote bonded out of jail Friday morning.
