Proper Flag Etiquette

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD)  In order to commemorate Flag Day, our friends from the American Legion brought along a large flag to demonstrate the proper technique of folding, and also shared some interesting facts about the American Flag. The most commonly known rule regarding the American Flag is that the flag should never touch the ground, and if it does it should be destroyed by burning it in a dignified manner. There are a lot of other rules that demonstrate proper flag etiquette.

The Flag Code formalizes and unifies the traditional ways in which we give respect to the flag. The neat and ceremonious flag folding is very particular. It is carefully folded into the shape of a tri-cornered hat, emblematic of the hats worn by colonial soldiers during the war for Independence.
