GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — More than 300 volunteers are joining together to build a playground for a Grand Rapids school.

The final construction phase is happening Friday on the new playground at Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology located at 600 Burton Street SE.KaBOOM playground 2 061314

The playground’s design is based on children’s drawings created at a special design event in April and will give more than 400 kids in Grand Rapids the chance to explore and play.

The playground is the 16th built by Amway and KaBOOM!

Once the structure settles, a grand opening event will be held on June 17 at 5 p.m. to mark the first time the playground will be open to the public.
