QUINCY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – Two people were taken to the hospital after a driver was distracted by her phone resulting in a rear end collision Friday.

The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. Friday on Jonesville Road, east of Fremont Road, in Quincy Township, near Coldwater, according to a release.

A SUV vehicle driven by Robin Fullbright, 24, of Quincy was going eastbound on Jonesville Road when she struck another SUV heading eastbound, driven by 42-year-old Tala Mohamed Al-Abssi of Coldwater.

Al-Abssi was transported to Community Health Center of Branch County. Fullbright was taken to Borgess Hospital, where she is still in serious condition, according to Branch County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies’ investigation shows Al-Abssi was traveling around 45 mph while Fullbright was driving faster than posted speed limit.

The investigation also shows Fullbright was distracted by her phone and was looking for items in the vehicle causing her to rear end Al-Abssi’s SUV, the release said.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Alcohol is not a factor, but careless driving is the factor in this accident, according deputies.
