HOLLAND, Mich. (AP/WOOD) — Holland authorities say a 9-year-old girl was wounded when a friend accidentally shot her in the head with an arrow.

It happened about noon Tuesday in the 200 block of W. 13th Street, according to Holland Department of Public Safety Capt. Jack Dykstra. Police say that two 9-year-old neighbors — a boy and a girl — were playing with a bow and arrow when the boy fired into the air.

Police say the arrow hit the girl in the head in a glancing blow.

The injured girl was taken to Holland Community Hospital for stitches, after which she was expected to be released.
