Battle Creek teen shot in shoulder

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A 17-year-old was found by police with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

The Battle Creek Police Department responded to the area of Walter Avenue and Hanover Street in Battle Creek for a reported shooting on Thursday just before 2 a.m.

When officers found the teen, he was alert and conscious.

After searching the area, police discovered a shell casing to the west of the intersection at Walter Avenue. They also found blood and a gun on the ground.

The victim was not cooperative with authorities and it’s possible the shooting was accidental, according to police.

The incident remains under investigation.
