Minor league soccer team coming to GR

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The popularity of soccer in West Michigan is growing tremendously thanks in part to the World Cup.

Starting next May soccer fans will be able to watch the sport on a local stage; a new minor league soccer team is starting up in Grand Rapids.

Grand Rapids Football Club will be equivalent to Class-A baseball. It will give local college players, who usually have to travel during the summer in order to play, a chance to stay in Grand Rapids.

Organizers have already seen a lot of interest with 300 people becoming members.
