PD: Elderly woman assaulted in home

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say an elderly woman was assaulted in her Grandville home by a man who then robbed her.

It happened Thursday morning in the 3700 block of Prairie Street SW, according to a release from the Grandville Police Department. Officers arrived on the scene around 11 a.m.

A stranger came to the back door of the victim’s home, police say, and tricked her into letting him inside. He then attacked her and stole an unknown amount of money before taking off on a bicycle.

Neighbors say the 85-year-old homeowner, who lives alone, was taken away from the scene in an ambulance.

“It’s just hard to believe people could be such animals. She’s such a dear, sweet person,” a friend of the victim said. “We certainly hope that they find out who did this and take care of it properly.”

Thursday afternoon, Grandville police and the Wyoming Police Department’s Crime Scene Response Team were at the house to investigate. They cleared the scene just after 4 p.m.
