GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Dog owners won’t have to leave their furry friends at home today.

Friday marks the 16th anniversary of “Take Your Dog to Work Day.”

Pet Sitters International created the day in 1999 to “celebrate the great companions dogs make and encourage their adoptions.”

According to USA Today, companies such as Procter & Gamble, Amazon and Google are among a few of the big names to welcome pets into the office not just once a year, but every day.

“Having pets in the office boosts morale,” said Julie Franklin, P&G Communications specialist. “It’s a definite stress-reliever. It makes our employees healthier and calmer, which means they’re much more productive.”

Not all businesses are on board with dogs in the office, so make sure you check first.
