Man hit twice while crossing busy road

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WOOD)– A man was hospitalized after he was struck by two cars while trying to cross the road.

It happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday on Alpine Avenue NW near York Creek Drive in Comstock Park.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, 19-year-old Joseph Edwards was first hit by an SUV that was heading northbound on Alpine Avenue.Shortly afterward, a second car, also traveling northbound on Alpine Avenue, hit him.

Officials say Edwards is recovering from serious injuries. He broke a leg and his pelvis.

Authorities say neither speed nor alcohol played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
